I think the factor that influences students and teachers to use technology in the classroom is the fact that it makes everything easier. For teachers, there are tons of resources they can use to keep their paperwork together, to research new teaching methods, to actually teach lessons in different ways so that all students get a chance to learn the material in a teaching that they prefer. For students, they can take notes on their computer, they can download different apps that can help to retain knowledge, etc.
The standard that I think is meaningful is the one that states that students can demonstrate an understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations because it seems to be the most basic which can be the foundation to do more advanced work in the future. The standard that I think is outside my skill set is the one that says students use digital medias and environments to communicate and work collaboratively. I think with the increase usage of technology people are becoming more and more isolated and independent. Although independence is good, people are not learning important life and social skills.
Yes I agree with the term digital native because my generation and kids these days have never not know a world before technology. I think there are two different types of digital immigrants, some teachers are really up to date with technology and know how things work, but some teachers are behind and not quite sure how things work. Teachers who don't know how to use technology, especially when they planned to incorporate it in their lesson tend to discourage the learning. However, when teachers can properly use technology it can make learning fun.
I agree with you that the technologies make things a lot easier than they used to be. However, it also changes the way we interact and access to information.
