Through our Twitter assignment I have been getting information from the Florida Board of Education and other educational accounts. All of this information is new and beneficial because I don't have a personal Twitter account, so it is nice to get all of this information immediately, rather than waiting to hear about it other ways. Twitter will definitely be helpful in my future career because I can make a class account or hashtag to remind students of homework assignments or tests. It's a way to be better connected to students and parents.

The digital divide will not affect student success in the early years as much as it will in the high school/college/work force years. If the school is in an urban area where none of the students have a reliable source of internet access then it is likely that the teacher won't regularly assignment homework that requires internet access. However, if the whole class does have access to the internet, then the teacher will probably regularly assignment online homework. Students in both of these schools will be able to succeed at this point though. The main cause of the digital divide is a student's socioeconomic status. Another cause can be the amount of funding that schools receive to upgrade their computer labs. My teaching strategies will depend on how many of my students have internet access at home. Most teachers send home a form at the beginning of the year asking this.

I am not sure what software I will use yet. I am still debating which grade level/subject I will teach. I think each class and subject are different, what worked for one class one year might not work with the next class the next year. I think it will be a trial and error process. I do know that if I end up teaching high school social studies, I will definitely use YouTube/John Green's Crash Course videos. I used them in high school and found them very helpful.

  1. Glad to see that you found the Twitter activity helpful!
I agree with you that technology use largely depending on what's available. However, it is more important to think about why we are using the technology - learning objectives - instead of simply use whatever is available.
